If you have any of Apple’s Bluetooth earbud or headphone offerings that support active noise cancellation and transparency mode, then you already know just how useful these features can seem. On the other hand, these features need to be toggled manually by the end user, which takes some of the ‘magic’ out of them.
iOS developer ETHN sought to create a jailbreak tweak that would make these features just a bit more magical for the end user by cutting away the manual aspect of them, and we believe he hit the nail on the head with the release of a new add-on dubbed Listening.
With Listening installed, Bluetooth audio devices such as the AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, Beats Studio3 headphones, and Beats Studio Buds earbuds will automatically switch to active noise cancellation mode when you begin playing music from your connected iPhone. Likewise, it will automatically switch to transparency mode after pausing media playback.
The concept may sound familiar to some, and that’s because a previously-released jailbreak tweak called Banana that we showed you last January offered similar functionality for owners of the aforementioned devices. Listening is just a bit different in that it can also automatically pause media playback when you activate transparency mode manually, in addition to automatically playing media playback when you activate noise cancellation mode.
Obviously, the tweak depends on a set of native active noise cancellation mode and transparency mode-supported Bluetooth earbuds or headphones, so it won’t be of any use to you if you don’t have a pair that support these native playback modes. In addition to requiring supported hardware, the tweak only officially supports jailbroken installations of iOS & iPadOS 14.
If you’re interested in giving Listening a try for yourself, then you can download it for free from the Packix repository via your favorite package manager app. Listening doesn’t have any options to configure, and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page for anyone who might want to learn a thing or two from the source code.
